President of Al Baath University, Prof. Abdul Basit Al Khatib, indicated that the strawberry fruits are among the most important and famous fruits in Syria, so the significance of the symposium lies in presenting how to verify the performace quality of cultivation for achieving the final quality of the crop, especially that the agricultural sector in Syria is not only considered an economic sector but also a lifestyle that influences the economic and social functions of a large number of citizens. He also added that the university, being an educational institution and a part of the community, works to achieve agricultural development objectives that are closely related to agricultural education and its efficiency. Prof. Al Khatib also pointed out that the university endeavors to support the agricultural research and develope new techniques for improving productivity and quality.
Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Prof.Muhammad Masri, stressed the importance of this symposium which aims to shed light on the cultivation of strawberries in Syria and to identify challenges and problems that hinder the process of cultivation, production, marketing and export, especially in the recent years, as the production has exposed to many diseases and pests led to huge losses for some farmers. The symposium included 12 scientific researches on the most important pests affecting strawberries, the use of biocontrol, the vegetative propagation, seedling production and the effect of some treatments on improving storage quality

The symposium was attended by the university vice-president for open learning affairs, Prof. Ahmed Muhanna, the member of party leadership at the university branch, Mr. Jaber Istanbul, the head of teachers’ syndicate, Prof. Abdul Razzaq Al sufi, the head of agricultural engineers syndicate in Homs, deans of faculties and a crowd of interested people.
