Faculty of Agriculture and Faculty of Pharmacy held a scientific symposium entitled “Medicinal and aromatic plants, and their food and pharmaceutical uses” in cooperation with the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD) at the Faculty of Agriculture.
President of Al-Baath University, Prof. Abdul Basit Al khatib, indicated to the importance of the symposium as the medicinal and aromatic plants are non-traditional crops that have been used for ages in treating many diseases and in many food industries. He also pointed out that Al-Baath University has always supported and held workshops and symposiums which present topics that effectively serve and develop society.
Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Yousra Al-Hassan, confirmed that the symposium has been to highlight the reality of agricultural production, the biodiversity of medicinal and aromatic plants, and their food pharmaceutical uses. She also pointed out that the topographical and climatic diversity of Syria has made it one of the countries that possess high advantages for producing many plant species, especially medicinal and aromatic plants, by manufacturing powders, oils or aquatic extracts. Moreover, she emphasized the importance of raising awareness about these plants to be new development projects that provide employment opportunities for youth and local residents.
Dr. Ahlam Maarouf, the representative of ACSAD ,referred to the memorandum of understanding signed between the organization and Al-Baath University, which aims to enhance scientific and technical cooperation, develop scientific research, and serve community

The symposium lasted for two days and
was attended by the secretary of B.A.S.P branch at the university, Prof. Fayeq Shadood, the university vice-president for open education affairs, Prof. Muhammad Al masri, deanship of the faculty of pharmacy, and a crowd of interested individuals.
