On the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of the Faculty of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering and within the context of linking the university to society, the faculty held in cooperation with Damascus Petrochemical Refinery Company a scientific event entitled “Sustainable Development and Environment Protection in the Petrochemical Industries” at the Faculty of Civil Engineering.
The university vice president for scientific affairs, Prof. Maan Salameh, stressed the importance of this event which comes in implementation of the content of the agreement signed with Damascus Petrochemical Refinery Company, and supports the fields of scientific research and students’ acquisition of the necessary practical experiences before entering the labor market and the reconstruction of the community, especially it coincides with the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the faculty which is the only one in the Syrian universities.
Dean of the Faculty of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, Prof. Sherif Sadek, pointed out that the faculty, with its four departments, is one of the first faculties to be opened at the university, and that it always seeks to graduate highly qualified students in the fields of engineering sciences .
Manager of the Damascus Petrochemical Refinery Company, Prof. Samer Abu Ammar, congratulated the university on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of the faculty and the Damascus Refinery Company on the twenty-third anniversary of its founding, speaking about the services provided by the company, the job opportunities it provides, and the scientific agreements signed with Syrian universities . .
The company presented a financial prize of 300,000 Syrian pounds to the first team and a prize of 200,000 Syrian pounds to the second team.
The event was attended by the member of the party leadership at the university branch, and the company chairman, Mr. Ahmed Al Ansari, and a crowd of interested people.
