13/04/2023In a continuation of the joint cooperation relations between Al Baath University and the Hospital for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Laser Treatment in Leipzig-Germany, the eleventh Syrian-German Medical Conference was opened at the faculty.
The university president, Prof. Abdul Basit Al Khatib, emphasized that the conference is an important scientific link that binds researchers and doctors of the two parties so they exchange medical knowledge and experiences for good medical practices and useful sociocultural relations. He also indicated that such medical scientific meetings allow students to follow up the latest findings of surgery especially that this specialty is moving towards development in terms of modern methods and technologies, which requires the university to support development in this field for developing society.
In addition, the secretary of B.A.S.P branch at the university, Prof. Fayeq Shadood, pointed out that such conferences and events play an important role in promoting the development of relations, stressing the need to activate the international agreements and encourage the foreign delegations to visit Syria especially in light of the great development of the higher education sector.
The head of the hospital, Dr. Ziyad Shreiqi, expressed his happiness with the 20-year cooperation between Al Baath University and the hospital, as there are determined efforts in every conference to present new surgical techniques and offering free surgeries at the university hospital.
Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Muhammad Firas Ramadan,indicated that this conference is a result of continuous cooperation with the German side, which is considered one of the highly developed medical countries.
Director of Al Baath University Hospital, Dr. Firas Zureika, noted the importance of the conference, especially that seven specialized surgeries will be carried out by Syrian and German doctors over three days, as certain cases of hospital’s main patients were selected and announcement was put for those wishing to visit hospital. He also indicated that a training workshop will be held for 34 postgraduate students in the Faculty of Medicine, and the trainees will receive an experience certificate in this field.
Head of Halle Hospital in Germany, Dr.Frank Simmers,expressed his happiness at being invited to participate in this conference for the second time, as information and ideas were exchanged and developed last year. He also pointed out to the great administrative and medical development witnessed in the university.
The conference lasts for three days. The first and second days include 16 lectures microsurgical technique, developments in the management of chronic obstructive pulmonary diseas, Type 2 diabetes associated with obesity, bariatric surgery, ethics of plastic surgery, esophageal tumors, robotic surgery of the esophagus and stomach, rhinoplasty is the easiest way, open wound repair using local and free flaps, . . . . . . . .
Before the start of the conference activities, the two sides also signed an executive protocol of the cooperation agreement for the years 2023-2024-2025.
The conference was attended by the university vice-presidents, members of the party leadership at the university branch, the university secretary the head of teachers’ syndicate at the university, members of the People’s Assembly, a number of directors and cadres of hospitals in Homs, the head of doctors’ syndicate in Homs, and a crowd of doctors and interested individuals.
